Will your Bushmaster AR-15 cycle with steel-cased ammunition? I'm especially curious about Wolf.

after having wolf jam up my sks I don't touch the stuff, all other ammo runs great in my sks including other steel cased ammo. My bushi only eats brass

I've run many thousands of rounds of Wolf steel cased ammo through my bushy... without failure.

The older lacquered type dirties up the chamber quite a bit... you need to keep that clean. The newer stuff is much cleaner. I've put as many as 1500 rounds of the newer stuff down range between cleanings. No issues.

I've recently started shooting silver bear, since it's quite a bit cheaper locally than wolf is. Steel case with some sort of silvery metal plating. It shoots just as well as the wolf does. I put 500 problem free rounds of it down last week. I've been using the same in .308 for my PTR91. I've only used about 200 rounds of it so far, but it has been 100% to this point.

I've heard people say that steel cased ammo is hard on your extractor. I keep a spare extractor (+spring and buffer) in my shooting box, but over the last 2 years with a steady diet of steel cased ammo, the original extractor is still functioning just as it should. Even if it does break... I've saved more than enough money shooting cheap steel cased ammo to pay for a whole bunch of extractors.

Works fine but it's filthy crap . . . .and it seems like it gums up the chamber if you get it hot and don't clean the chamber well after usage. (never have the issue with brass cased XM193)

I know it's not ideal - I ask because Wolf is all I can afford to stock in quantity. 9mm and 7.62 work perfectly in everything I own and I wouldn't want an AR-15 that can't function well with steel case Wolf.

I've heard some say that Bushmasters (among other AR-15 manufacturers) especially don't like this ammunition.

the first ar that i had was a bushmaster and it functioned and ran fine with steel cased ammo, i haven't tried steel cased ammo in my newest bushmaster but i will in the future.

my bushy eats wolf all day!

What's funny is that it shoots better with wolf 55 grain FMJ than Remington, Winchester, or Federal 55 grain FMJ.

I have one Bushmaster carbine and a couple rifles with Bushmaster chrome lined barrels and they all feed fine with Silver Bear ammunition.

Wow! Almost 70% have answered that "it doesn't feed at all" with steel cased ammunition.

That seems like quite a high percentage...I'd be interested to hear about this. What went wrong? Is this a similar percentage to all other AR designs...I really hope my brand new 16" HBAR Patrolman's Carbine will feed Wolf or I'll have to sell it - I can't wait to get home to try.

I hit the wrong one, I accidentally hit that it doesn't feed at all.....oops sorry:banghead: What can I say its almost 5am and I can't fall asleep. My actual answer was supposed to be feeds fine.

I've put hundreds of all steel rounds through my Bushy M4gery and its never had a hiccup of any kind.

<<I've run many thousands of rounds of Wolf steel cased ammo through my bushy... without failure.

Mine works fine with all ammo, including steel cased Wolf.

Manual says its ok and it ran like a champ in mine.>>

+1

I don't think it is quite so simple as "steel cased" or not. I have seen one Bushmaster feed steel-cased Hornady just fine and choke consistently on Wolf steel case.

For whatever reasons, ARs are much more finicky about ammo when fed steel-cased ammo.

I know lots of guys who run Wolf without problems; but inevitably when someone has a stuck case, it is Wolf that pops out. It is kind of hard not to reach the conclusion that Wolf isn't an ideal choice after seeing that enough times.
