Is the colt service ace,or the conversion kit still available ? considering the economy and
the cost of centerfire ammo it should sell like hotcakes.

I have conversion kits from Wilson and Kimber for 1911's - and from Sig for a 226 ....and they're all decent kits ( Wilson kit is more accurate than the others - has to do with how the kits locks up )....but there are some issues with the kits too:

a. none of them lock the slide back when the mag is empty...
b. none of them like to run on cheap bulk ammo ...all of the companies making them, recommend CCI MiniMag ammo ( in my area its about $ 10 - $12for 100 rds )....
c. gun feels almost the same with the conversion kit on it ....but its lighter...and of course there is no recoil ...
---------------
d. since I reload 9mm ( and even with a premium bullet - Montana Gold - my reloads for 9mm are under $6 a box for 50 rds...) its cheaper to buy a 1911, for me at least, in 9mm - or a 2nd gun like a 226 in 9mm and just shoot it in 9mm...as practice rather than buy CCI MiniMag....and shooting a 9mm / even though I carry a 1911 in .45 acp ...is way better practice than shooting a .22...in my opinon.

So I have 4 kits ....but as it turns out, I don't shoot them much. Even the grandkids don't shoot them ...they'd rather shoot a tricked out Browning Buckmark I bought ...with Tactical solutions barrel, rail, etc on it - with a nice red dot sight...its more fun for them.../ in fact, I don't think I've shot any of my conversion kits in well over 3 yrs...( but no, they're not for sale )...they'll go to one of the kids, with a 1911 for it - or whatever down the road...someday ...
