I installed a Wilson thumb safety in my SW1911SC. It took some fitting but it works GREAT NOW. Thanks to the sticky "How 1911 safetys work..." I know understand some things and I have a question.

The thumb safety now has a nice positive feel to it. I can feel when I click it on and off. Now that I know how it works I assume the clicking is caused by the safety rubbing againts the Sear as it rotates and clicks on and off.

Is this a problem ? should I do a little more fitting so it doesnt rub ? Or should it rub a little so it is less lickly to get knocked off accidently ? Will the rubbing cause problems to the Sear or the Safety ?

Thanks,
J

Safety

Howdy and welcome aboard.

The positive "snick-snick" as you engage and disengage is caused by the plunger pin and not the contact with the sear. Correctly fitted, the safety lug shouldn't actually place positive pressure on the sear leg, but rather should just make contact so as to completely prevent any sear movement.

Check yours to see that this is happening. Double-check to see that the gun is unloaded.

Rack the slide to cock the hammer and place the safety in the safe position.

Pull the trigger with roughly double the amount of force needed to fire the gun. Hold the left side of the gun...next to the safety...up to your ear, and gently pull the hammer past full-cock a tiny bit. Be careful not to let it touch the grip safety, or you'll get a false reading. If you hear a light "click" as the hammer comes off the sear, your safety isn't fully blocking it. If you don't hear it, you're good to go.

Thank you for the help. I will check this as soon as I get home tonight.
