anyone used wilson spring kits for a smith and wesson revolver? is the gun still reliable for self defense? do these reduce power springs affect the timing?
Have installed many Wilson spring kits in my own guns and my customers guns. As long as you do not back off the strain screw on the mainspring to reduce trigger pull further they have been 100% reliable. You still need to fire at least 100 rounds of your chosen carry loads to be sure. Some primers require more force to ignite than others. CCI will be the toughest with Federal and Winchester being somewhat softer. There should be no effect upon the revolver's timing.
I usually go with the middle of the range or the original trigger rebound. If you run a light trigger return spring the trigger will not reset quickly enough for rapid fire. Many smiths for years would just cut one or two coils off of the factory trigger rebound spring. Jerry Miculek uses full power rebound springs (maybe even heavier) for his amazing double action work. Google Youtube to see him in action. But if fast double action work is of no concern you can run with the lightest rebound spring in the kit for a very light double action trigger.
