Hi guys.
Im primarily a target shooter but I can see myself picking up a shotgun or two down the road for some hunting.I'm just looking into different guns Reliability wise and parts wise. Can replacement barrels for the 1300 be got?I was thinking of getting one with a 28 inch barrel and down the road getting a 18.5 inch for hd.

thanks guys.

Absolutely, a good gun shop will have plenty of barrels laying around. If not they can be found online too.

Replacement 1300 barrels are not as plentiful as are say an 870 barrel, but they can be acquired. Seems like the cost is a bit more than an 870 barrel if memory serves me correctly. Last I checked, a used 1300 shotgun could be bought very reasonably for about the same price as a new aftermarket barrel. Buying another used 1300 could be a better option unless a shop has a used barrel laing around.

I agree that the 1300 is a top notch shotgun and worth the trouble.

Places like Corson's or the Barrel Exchange list a good many used shotgun barrels on the web. Spare barrels for Winchester guns seem to be getting more expensive though. Chances are with some judicious shopping, you can get an entire gun for what a hard to find barrel would cost. I got a very good used 1300 slug gun (22" rifle sights, smoothbore) a couple of months ago for $150.

I LOVE my 1300, but I gotta say, 18" barrels are non-existant. I wanted one for mine, and couldn't find anything, including at the two sites Lee listed. This was about a year ago. You CAN find 28" VR barrels. Occasionally you can find a 18" Defender barrel, but the Defenders have a longer mag. tube and don't interchange. I lucked into finding a 28" non-VR full choked barrel off of a 1200 in a pawn shop (120,1200,1300,1400 all interchange, although the 1400 will have gas ports), which I cut down. As mentioned above, your best bet would likely be to buy a pair of guns. Plus, then you wouldn't have to change barrels!

thanks guys!Yeah that would not put me off picking one up.I think i'll get a long one for bird hunting and such then later on maybe pick up an 870 with a short barrel.

Hey guys another question..When you buy a used shotgun are you expecting it to come with a set of chokes or does it vary?

Be sure to ask.....nothing is guaranteed with a used gun. As a matter of fact, a buddy recently bought a NEW Rem. 870, which ONLY came with a mod. choke. The dealer was nice enough to give him a IC and F that he had laying around.
