Win 231 or Bullseye for 45acp

I'm as frugal as the next guy but at 1500-2000 rounds/pound, this just doesn't matter.

I tend to agree... I've never dictated reloading components based on price. Don't get me wrong... I'm not going to pay $40 for a pound of powder if I can help it, but at the level I reload at, I'm not going to cry over .01/rd As 243 suggests, though, if I'm buying loaded ammo, it's easier to save some money and make it count. I also have the theory... if you are running a full-auto or a machine gun and you have to ask how much ammo costs... you can't afford it.

AA# 2 works very well for 45ACP. The Western Powders Handloading Guide Edition 1 lists 27 recipes for regular 45ACP and 17 for 45ACP + P using AA#2

Either one is fine. Both powders are useful in other calibers as well. I’ll throw one more in the mix. How about AA#2?

When Bullseye got hard to find, a number of the Bullseye Pistol shooters I know walked over to Titegroup. That is an outstanding powder for low velocity loads. A number use WST. Bullseye is still popular, hardly anyone I know uses W231 in their target pistols, and I don't know why, I shot kegs of the stuff in IPSC practice.

I created some plated bullet loads with Bullseye, and the bullets go down the barrel and if I do my part, point of aim and point of impact coincide.

I already commented, but I will add this:

HP-38/W231 seems to work "well" in all of my pistol calibers, but it is never the "best". I love it for versatility and soft shooting, and keep some around for "just in case" needs since you really can use is anywhere.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm a Bullseye user for .45.

When I started shooting Bullseye competition back in the dark ages, my mentor insisted I use 231 instead of Bullseye. He was an experienced competitor and his reasoning was that Bullseye with cast bullets was dirty enough to cause function problems by the end of a 2700 point match, using the 45 for two legs. My match gun would hold the X ring with my 231 load so I never switched.
Now, at 70 and with ten pounds of Bullseye on the shelf, I am rethinking my powder choices.
