Does the Winchester 333 bulk ammo have some sort of coating like wax on the bullets that melts when you shoot? We were out all morning shooting my glenfield 25 and when I got home I noticed some kind of melted gunk radiating out from the muzzle and the rifling inside was pretty much clogged with it. I could scrape it off the outside with my fingernail and I didn't notice any problems with accuracy. I've never noticed it before should i try and clean it or just forget about it? And also how much should you clean a .22 I've always just wiped the excess dirt/ powder residue out of the barrel and wiped it down with some oil and it seemed to work fine or does it need more cleaning than that?

Never had any trouble out of Win 333. I use it in my Ruger MK I and MK II's with no trouble. I have had trouble with Remington bulk ammo and whatever lube it has on it. It caused feeding issues in 2 of my Rugers.

All 22 rimefires have a coating. Some are hard wax like bulk ammo, target ammo is a soft grease. On my guns that run target ammo, I don't put anything in the bore until accuracy degrades. The grease is a pretty good rust preventative. On the guns that only get standard ammo, they get cleaned after every session because the accuracy isn't all that great to begin with. It takes about 10-20 shots to get the barrels to "settle in" with the lubricant on target ammo. What was leaking out the bore was most likely the lub on the bullets that built up on the outside of the crown and when the barrel got hot it started melting. I wouldn't be overly worried about it but I would like to have it clean. Try shooting CCI Blazers as they are a little different when it comes to the lube, its really like some kind of dry film that doesn't melt in my experience. They will be a little cleaner to shoot than the Win 333. I would clean the barrel after shooting them though. You will hear all kinds of cleaning methods, for rimfire especially. Try them and see what works for you. When I do clean I use Bore Tech Rimfire Blend and follow with Kroil or Barricade (Sheath) for rust proofing. The Bore Tech stuff is awesome for getting all the wax and lead out fast.
