Hello,
I have a Win 94 compact on which I want to install a Williams FP sight set. The rear sight looks pretty straight forward. However because of the 16" barrel, the barrel band is in the way of the front sight installation. I loosened the barrel band, thinking that I'd slide it forward or aft, but there is a groove cut in the barrel for the screw that holds the band in place.

Need some help/suggestions on how to proceed. Maybe Williams makes a front sight that will work (I've not checked). Short of that, what say you? Can I just remove the barrel band? That will look a little different, but will it affect anything on the gun, structurally or otherwise?

I'll try and attach a picture so you can see. Thanks for any suggestions.

what if I remove the barrel band screw and slide the band forward enough so that the new front sight will fit, and just leave the band screw out? The band would be restricted from moving aft because of the front sight, and I don't know if it will slide off of the front - I kind of think that its hour glass shape, the screw that runs through the tube to the barrel, and the end of the tube will all keep it from moving forward. I suppose I could "bubba" the band with wire through the screw hole and around the screw that holds the tube to the barrel, just to be sure - not quite ready to go the bubba route just yet but am kinda brainstorming ideas in my head.

I just used a Dremel tool and rounded the sight to fit didn't do anything with the barrel band.Doesn't look too bad

thanks wild willy. sure looks like I'd be removing material all the way to the fire sight itself, but if you've done it, I guess not. I like that idea better than fiddling with anything on the gun itself.
