I just got in a Winchester 94, 44 Mag with the cross bolt safety I bought on gunbroker.com. It's in mint condition as new and much better than I expected and the metal and bluing are finished quite well but it looks like a kid in Jr. High shop class fitted the wood to the receiver, both fore and aft. Wide gaps between metal and wood and the wood sticks up higher. Is this common?

Also anybody know about when mine was made.....serial #60062xx.

So much for craftsmanship. It looks like that part of the equation has left the plant!

You read enough forums and you`ll see that`s not an un-common problem these days.
