Ever break one? Had a 20 gauge with the prettiest wood you ever saw, twice when I chambered a round, I sheared the screw between the bolt, and the action bars on the fore arm. There was a 12 in the gunsmiths, had the same thing.

Never broke one, but know of a number that were.

In the late 1970s, The MD House of Corruption bought some to replace the older Model 12s and 97s in the inventory. There were also a number of 870s.

While the older Winchesters held up under the usual neglect, dirt and abuse common to agency weaponry, the 1200s did not.

There were magazine issues, rust in bolt issues and one set of bent action bars that in fairness was probably due to one of my less evolved co workers trying to rack it against the lock....

Also in fairness, no 1200 in private hands I know about has been anything less than superb for reliability and longevity.

i had a 1200 for a few years, never a problem, let me tell you of my deal,i spruced up a smith/wesson 916 20 gauge, stained the light wood dark, mossberg heatshield, had barrell trimmed to 19 inches,it looked good, shot ok,and i traded it and a kukri that was shipped to me wrong{not the one i ordered, straight up for a pristine like new winchester 1300 12 gauge vr with assrted chokes. beutiful swirly wood stocks ,i am a happy camper.

the 1200 was a tad better than the 1400, but that's not saying much. Durability was not dialed into the equation. Other than the Model 12, Winchester made better rifles than shotguns. Their current shotguns are fantastic, but then they're re-badged Brownings...

they are more durable then people give them credit for,ive read on plenty of forums of law enforcement chiming in about their old 1200 riot"s or defenders running right alongside the 870"s trouble free, heck i just read of the czeck armed forces with 1300 defenders in europe.at least my 1300 and my 1200 riot dont drop shells out the bottom and jam like my last mossberg did.

maybe the 1200, but not the 1400. Plastic and white pot metal stamped parts. They're no Remington...
