Hello,
Newbie here. I have acquired a Winchester 1300 Defender 12ga and am
wondering what is needed to convert it to a skeet/hunting shotgun.
Someone is selling me a vented, ribbed Variable Choke barrell (28
inch) with modified Winchoke choke tube and says I would need to
change the chokes for different uses. How is this done? Should I get this barrel? How much should I expect to pay?

I'm new to shotguns, so do not worry about over-explaining
anything. The truth is I'm not sure about the terminology. I know
barrel, sights, chamber, pump, trigger, and how to load the
shotgun. :)

I certainly expect to learn a lot more very soon. I only have a
couple of days to get this barrel if it's what I need.

Many thanks in advance for any info you can give.

Welcome aboard, Vlad.

IIRC, the Defender comes with a long mag tube. The longer barrels are setup for use with the short tube, There may be an adapter available but by the time you get it you'lll have about as much money tied up as you would buying another shotgun.

I suggest you keep an eye out for a used 1300. Same controls and "Chops", ready for skeet, birds, etc.
