I am not the most knowledgable guy on the 1400, however I found this on another forum. Take it for what you paid for it
You don't say if your gun is one of the Mk I or Mk II guns or not. If a 1400 Mk II - it only holds three rounds, one chambered, two in the magazine. There is no plug and the magazine tube cannot be expanded. The Mark II Model 1400 replaced the 1400 model (called 'Mk I' but it never had that roll mark) in 1968 and was discontinued in 1973 - so your gun is somewhere between '68 and '73 if this is a "mark II" 1400. There were 'model 1400s' made again in 1989 - but not the same as these early "mark IIs".
I have an early 1400. I know there is a difference in the way the charging handle is attached to the bolt between the two models. Also my early model does not have the "famous for breaking" bolt release on the bottom side of the reciever. On mine, you just push the shell follower in with the tip of your thumb to release the bolt.
Yes, I do know firsthand that a Winchester 1400 and a Ted Williams 300 barrels are interchangeable, I've done it. I remember reading that the 140 and MKII were also, and if I recall correctly, I read it on Numrichs website a few years ago while looking for Winchoke tubes.
Does anyone know how to remove the bolt from this gun? I got it today and it is filthy and I am trying to remove the bolt to get it clean and lubed and I can not get the rail arms detached from the end of the mag tube. I have read the 1400 instructions and it says to pull the spring down and remove the pin and I have done that and I can not get the pin out. banghead::banghead:
I have solved the slide arm problem and removed the pin. Now my chalange is removing the bolt. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
