Winchester 1895 Saddle Ring Carbine

Guys,
I got a buddy who has the newer Miroku version of this rifle.

There is a hole for a butt stock cleaning kit, but no kit is included.

What should it look like, and where can a guy find a replica kit?

Seems a shame to have one without the other.

Dixie Gun Works used to carry reproduction Winchester cleaning rods. They were likely the same rod supplied since the 1873 model.

I did look at the rods in the Dixie catalogs. I was wondering if they had something like the 1903 Springfield...with the thing type brush...or even a small oil bottle like the Garand....

Cant seem to find much about this on the Net.

Funny with as many groups who used this firearm...youd think there might be more information.

The gun is worthless without the original cleaning kit unless you know the right person and he just wants one. I could be persuaded...as a personal favor, to take it off of your buddy's hands.

I believe the Winchesters just had a cleaning rod in the butt trap.

The 1903's had a pull through cleaning apararatus, it had a weight, cord, and a threaded and slottted end for pulling a brush or patch through. It was stored in a nickel plated brass tube, one end of which held oil. The later versions were plastic tubes. Garand oil/grease bottles are handy also, if you can find one. I don't know if any of them would fit the Winchester trap.

I meant to say the "thong" type brush...

Rahter than "THING" type brush....just as you describe the 1903 cleanig brush.
