I've been off work for several weeks recovering from surgery and have taken this time to clean out and get rid of stuff I'll never use. My wife signed up on ebay and we've sold a lot of stuff. One of the things I sold was a buttstock off of an 1895 Winchester. Several years ago I helped a friend restock an old Russian contract rifle that was missing the barrel and forearm. We found a gunsmith to put a new barrel on it, then bought new wood, fit and finished it. I ended up with the old buttstock and sold it last wee3k on ebay.

Now the buyer has emailed me saying it is not for an 1895, it is actually for an 1894. I'm 99.9% sure this is the stock that came off that rifle. I've never owned or worked on an 1894, can't imagine how I could have mixed this up. If the mistake was mine I will absolutely make it right. Does anyone know if the old Winchester stocks were different dimensions than the new ones?

Thank you in advance for any help or observations.

Thanks for the link. It doesn't really matter now. I offered him a refund because I don't want someone stuck with a stock they can't use. I was surprised when he said no problem, he would keep it anyhow as he would more than likely use it eventually. It's really good to deal with people like that. I offered to send him some small Winchester parts I had left over to make up for any trouble. Only seems right.
Thanks for the help.
