Had one I think. It was a Winchester and made for boy scout training, had a neat aperture sight I installed on another rifle. I got it from an uncle, sold it.

My Uncle had one, too, my cousin has now, bought it in the 50s. It's a standard one like the picture. They're not worth a whole lot. A bazillion of 'em were made. Don't know a value, but I sold mine sans rear sight for 50 bucks.

Winchester '02'....

Your Winchester 02 is actually a 1902, redesigned version of the Model 1900. the original crescent buttplate was changed to hard rubber in 1904. Altered in 1914 the use of Short, long, or extra long interchageably, so yours was made after that. In 1919 Winchester dropped the first two numbers of the model number from 1902 to 02. Because there is two spaces between MOD and 02, I think yours was made in that year, as they changed to only a single space in 1920. the stock is 'walnut' stained gumwood and appears to be in fair shape. The rifle sold in 1902 for about $5, today in fair to excellent condition run $200 to as high as $1500. Wouldn't pay that much for one, or at least any that I've seen so far. Nice little shooters though, mine will make a soup can dance out past 35 yards, even with my old eyes. Enjoy....

Ogie;

You might check Fjestad's. Possibly a Winchester 'Boys' model 02, I'd have to go over to a friend's & check that one against your pictures. Then you'd probably have to take more pics also. Interestingly enough, the original 'Boys' did not have a trigger.

the problem here is condition. what one examiner sees as opposed to another. Albeit, i would say yours is in good to very good condition. i have seen examples , in similar condition to yours, go for 500 bucks at collector's firearms, here in Houston.

I picked one up last year with my grandson in mind. A friend stoped by the house with three guns he picked up at a yard sale. One was the 02 that he had paid fifty dollars for and wanted to know if I was interested in it. You should have seen his face when I pulled a hundred and a fifty out of my wallet. We were both more than happy......Essex

Nice little gun, have one sitting in my gunsafe, somethings up with the internals, can't get the bolt to lock and stay open. Didn't know they were worth anything though. It's why I love this place lol
