Anyone else have/had issues with Winchester 777 209 primers?

I went out to shoot my new inline. These 209 primers were the only brand available at the LGS. Now I know why. 50% failure rate.

Talk about frustrating! Grrrrr! Cleaning between shots to dial sights in I can handle. But not having ignition then waiting to make sure it wasn't a hangfire.

Glad I brought my 1873 so it wasn't a total waste.

So you were not able to set off the 209 primers?
or they went bang, but the powder charge didn't?

I'm assuming the primers never went off since I can't imagine any 209 primer not having plenty of oompf to ignite black powder, even stubborn pellets.

If the primers were going off, I'd suspect a closed flash channel or wet powder.

If the primers did not go off did they on a 2nd or third whack?

Used 777 FFG loose, 100gr.

No bang, no fizz, nothing, nada, like I was dry-firing. Primer was struck in each of the cases. After 3 tries I tossed it and used a new primer. got ignition on second primer each time.

Before loading I always pop 1 primer. Got a dud once there also. I do this to make sure flask hole is clear & ready.

Very frustrating. I now have a flat of 209 primers I do not trust. I'll use them up on pops but never again behind powder.

I must have gotten a abnormally bad batch. I just can't imagine Winchester having that bad quality control.

On the bright side, when I got ignition...

Absolutely LOVE the TAC2 trigger on the Vortek Strikerfire :)

Every good thing has its Debby Downers, but a quick Google search "Vortek Strikerfire Misfire" makes it sound like you're far from the only one who has had problems.

Hopefully it's just the primers, that is easy enough to fix.

I'd probably try backing the breech plug out a tad and see if you can reliably fire those primers then. Otherwise, they aren't going to be good for much else based on your experience.

The reports of missfires that I came across while researching prior to purchase were the NW version. If they bothered to mention version at all. Otherwise has good reviews.

Apparently Strikerfire system and #11 caps do not play well together.

Its going to be a couple weeks before I can head out with new 209 primers.

Just went out. 10 primers, 10 pops. No issues.

Do these look light strikes?
