Hey guys,

a couple years ago my uncle gave me his 1980 Winchester 94 AE in 30-30. Beautiful rifle, but lately I've had an issue. The first round will feed from the tube fine. However, the next round gets pushed by the follower, but the small metal tab that prevents the rounds from pushing out does not release to allow it to be fed into the ramp. Anyone know what's going on here?

Hi buddy. If it's the cartridge stop, I had that problem (not on a centerfire, on the 22 rimfire version). IF the two actions are the same, my problem was just old oil and carbon gunked up in the cartridge stop. A thorough cleaning (I had to really really thoroughly clean!) and problem completely solved. If old oil and dirt are your problem, don't feel bad about it. Old lever actions are hard to clean, I know from old age and experience. One good thing about it, the problem might not occur again until your grandson shoots it. :)

By the way, I switched over from regular gun oil. I use synthetic like FP-10. It doesn't get old and gunk up like regular oil. Costs a lot more, but it sure works and it lasts and lasts.

Thanks fr the response. this was indeed the problem. I hit it with some gun scrubber in a nozzle bottle. Appears to have blasted any of the gunk holding it up right out. Cycles flawlessly now.

when you load the rifle don't let the metal loading gate close shut. Let the 1st round's rim hold it open, and feed in the next.
