WInchester 94 coiled main spring

I accidentally freed the coiled main spring from the guide. I haven't been able to get them back together. I imagine that there is some neat little coil spring compressor that would make the job simple, but everything I see on the Internet looks like it was made to compress valve springs or bigger.

Anyone have any ideas for getting the spring back onto the guide, other than taking it to a gunsmith.

Well, I've never done it myself (don't own one), but there's a guide here that will probably work. If you search for it on Amazon, there's a $5 book on how to do it, too.

Thanks for your reply. I've been on the website that you refered me to, but that guy was smart- you'll notice that the guide rod and spring are still attached because he staked it with a small nail before removing the hammer.

I'm pretty sure I've got it figured out now - just take a little more work and some ingenuity.
