Picked up a 1905 (or 1907 not sure) 94 30-30 saddle ring. It's been restored so I know the value is low, but I want it as a shooter.

I think the ejector needs work or replacing, it won't kick out any ammo made by Winchester or Hornady, only Remingtons.

This is my first 94 and so I'm not sure what is normal and what is not, including how the action cycles. Looking for someone who really knows the 94 to work on it. Any suggestions? I'm in central ny.

Well, that leaves me out!

However, I have been inside a 94 a few times in the last 50 years or so.

Extractor = Hook at the top of bolt face = Pulls the empty case out of the chamber.
Does it?

Ejector = Rectangle shaped piece at bottom of bolt face = Spring loaded out, and flips the case or loaded round up and out when it case or bullet clears the front of the front receiver ring.

SO, I would suspect the extractor, ejector & springs inside the bolt are packed with 100 years of dried oil and crud and is not spring loaded down (extractor) out (Ejector) anymore.

The reason some brands work and others don't is dependent on the shape of the rim of the case.
Smaller or tapered / beveled off rim would do it.

I would imagine all it needs is a complete dissembly and cleaning.
But that is not for the feint of heart if you have never done it.

I can't help you with finding a gunsmith in NY familiar with 94 Winchesters, but there should be one in every good gun shop in that part of the country.

It might be enough just to pull the bolt out and soak it in a penetrant or dunk it in a sonic tank if one is available.

Thanks guys. I might try the soaking route... It for sure is the extractor not catching the rim casing.
