Winchester 94 Tang/Cross Bolt Safety

What year did Winchester start putting tang or cross bolt safeties on their lever guns? Also, any glaring problems with guns built in the early 90's?

i bought mine in 1990. i have put i dont know i guess maybe 2000 rounds through it. I have never had any problem with it. never ever at all. I just take care of it the way you are supposed to

I saw one today that was built in the 80's, any problems with Winchesters built during that decade?

you know what until this weekend i did not know what exactly a cross tang safety was. i thought you meant that thing under the lever. you have to have the lever held to push a button before you can pull the trigger. I saw a newer i guess winchester with this safety switch by the hammer. If thats a cross bolt safety id stay away from that. Mine for sure does not have that at all. Then it does not have a cross bolt like my marlin where it shows red and black. Nope in 1990 they did not have that. id for sure look for a 1990 model

I have three Model 94s (.44 mag, .30-30, and .410 ga). All have functioned flawlessly.
