I just bought a 24" barrel Legacy in .44 Mag. Great looking rifle in 98% condition. It is fairly new, but I can't find the date it was made by using the serial number because it seems to be too new for the Winchester find your DOM webpage. The SN is 6500***. Anyone have any information they would share such as DOM and how many were made in .44 Magnum? Thanks for any assistance.

This might help some....

The Legacy in 44 mag was new in 1997. This is the one with the cross lock safety.

The Legacy with the tang safety was in the 2006 catalog. It may have been new in 2004 or 2005, but I don't have or can't find those catalogs.

i can,t help you with the DOM on your rifle, but i have one i bought at a estate sale in mint condition with a fantistic checkered dark walnut pistol gripped stock with sling swievels added, serial # 64733xx that has the push safety. and it likes heavy bullets. i think your lucky to have that rifle as i feel i,m lucky to have mine. eastbank.

Thanks Dryhumor, I didn't know that about the difference in safeties. Mine is a tang safety, so it must be around 2006 or newer. Eastbank, yes, I feel we are pretty lucky to have found them. While I haven't shot mine yet, I do love the dark walnut and the checkering is excellent and sharp. It is the AE, but I don't think I will be scoping it, I really do like the open sights on this rifle. A great fun gun as is, I also assume it will cycle and work well with 44 Special ammo.

i have never shot 44 specials out of mine, winchester finely got the shell lifter right and i like the long barrel. i,m not going to scope mine either, williams makes a reciever peep sight that will fit on the AE action if you like. eastbank.
