I have a question to anyone using Winchester Walmart Value Packs. The other day I purchased a box of 50 9mm Target rounds model (Q4172). The actual bullet seems to be FMJ copper with brass case??

Today I purchased the value pack 100 rounds model (USA9MMVP). The bullet and case are the same color which I believe to be brass. I was just wondering if anyone knows exactly what the material is for the bullets in the value pack since they look different and I thought I was getting the same.

On Winchester's website both models seem to have the same spechs, but they look like different bullets in real life and online they look exactly the same. You can look at them here.

Bottom line, I'm just wondering if the quality of the value packs are the same as the Q4172, or is it an inferior bullet that could possibly harm my gun. There not re-manufactured, are they?? Also, if anyone knows what the material is for the bullets exterior in the value packs vs. the 50 round pack.

Sorry for the rambling. :scrutiny:

There's nothing wrong with the value packs. They're just standard FMJ bullets. Nothing about the ammo will ruin your gun.

Colors vary.

Brass cases are, well, brass. Sometimes nickled.

Wolf and some surplus stuff have steel cases, usually a grayish material. Usually has some laquer to keep it from rusting.

Bullets are normally clad with "gilding metal", an alloy of copper and zinc, as I recall. The color varies with exact content and manufacturing technique and age. (Gets duller with time.)

About the only thing that will hurt a barrel shooting it is tracer ammo. And that is illegal (fire hazard) and hard to find in most places. So called corrosive ammo won't hurt your gun if you clean it promptly.

Thanks guys! Great answers. Also, it's good to know that the question has been brought up enough times for it to be in Winchesters FAQ's page. I was beginning to think that I was being silly about this. :what:

Thanks again.

Brass jackets, and its perfectly safe for your gun. Remington's Golden Sabers, and Montana Gold bullets use brass jackets. Brass is cheaper than copper, which has been increasing in price.

chevrofreak, I feel kinda silly saying this, but I just realized I have some of Remington's Golden Saber bullets but I never noticed that they were brass, I guess because the case is nickel plated giving contrast, whereas the Winchester is all the same color and a bit more obvious. Doh! :banghead:
