Winchesters are mostly for the name, I think - and there aren't as many of them vs the other manufacturers (except for International Harvester).

Its just the name. Winchester produced the second most M1 of any of the Mfgs.

Springfield
1934 to 1946 made 3,526,922 total war time production of M1s.

Winchester
1941 to 1945 made 513,880 total war time production of M1s.

Post War Mfg

Springfield
1952 to 1956 made 661,747 total post war time prodution of M1s (this included the National Match rifles)

H&R
1953 to 1956 made 428,600 total post war production of M1s.

IHC
1953 to 1956 made 337,623 total post war production of M1s.
