Winchester M42. I have a new grandson. I was thinking about setting up a college fund for the little guy and debating how to fund it.

One option is to sell my Winchester M42 410 and put that money into the fund. I know Win M42’s seem to be going up in value, but which would make the most money over the next 17 years??

If keeping the M42 is the answer then I would be the keeper. His father is not a shooter. Not anti, just not interested in shooting. I haven’t shot the 410 in a few years so keeping it a safe queen is not a problem as long as I’m alive. This is a problem for me as my family genetics say I will not be around to see him graduate high school.

Your thoughts please.

There are lots of ways to fund college. I'm walking that walk with my daughter right now. He may rather have the 42 to remember his Grandfather by than the money it would bring in either case.

With batchelor degrees costing near $100K and even more. The money the 42 would bring would just be a pittance. And just because his father isn't gun oriented doesn't mean he will be the same .

You could ignite that spark in him with the time you have left. And with what better gun than a classic like the 42.

I have two inherited Model 12's. My Dads 12ga and my Grandfathers 16ga. They mean more to me than money ever could.

I wish I could. I was 500 -600 miles from his father and did not end up spending much time with him. The Grandson is now 1000+ miles from me and I will probably see him even less.

College expenses are increasing faster than inflation. Who knows what costs will be 17 years from now. I'm expecting his parents will pick up the majority of the burden, but I would like to help were I can, thus this post.

Are some firearms thought to be able to rise in price faster than inflation, or better than the stock market???? And NO I am not talking about the "collectors items" of firearms.

Since you're ruling out the one segment that MIGHT exceed inflation, the answer to your question is "no".
