howdy.............new to this so here go's.....I have come across a winchester model 12 in 12 gauge.I thought it worked perfectly but now not sure.I had taken the shotgun for a sporting clay workout.I put the first shell in the barrel an closed the action all seemed well.I then tried to load the second shell into the magazine tube, but after inserting the shell,i found it would not stay inside the tube(like my 870 wingmaster)but came out halfway under the feedramp.I took the shotgun to a gunsmith but he told me that the shell was not supposed to stay in the feedtube but positon itself under the slide, waiting to be pushed in after ejecting the fired round!?!?!?He told me that afetr putting the first shell into the feed tube which pushes it under the feed ramp, the second shell is feed into the tube after depressing the feedslide down on top of the shell under it,an then it would stick in the feedtube awaiting the second shot an action worked with final shot loaded....what i am saying is ...the second an third shell don't stay in the feedtube like 870 wingmaster ??? winchester model 12 lets the second shot rest under the feed slide????is this correct?????please help whats right here

how do ya feed two shells into the feedtube???they seem to want to flyout when i remove my finger???......sonny

That is correct. I own two Model 12's. The shells do protrude from the magazine. Use just the tip of your thumb and let the loading ramp catch the shell when you release it. A little practice and you can do it in the dark.

Yes there is something different with the Mod 12, as to the shells staying in the mag tube. I have a 20 ga handed down from the Grandfather. I'd find a safe area to practice with it & make sure it cycles fine, all should be O.K..

pumping the action seem's unsmooth

when i fire the first shot it seem's that when i pump the action to feed a new round in,the shell seem's to feed a little bit labor intensive...you would think that after a million rounds it would be as slick as greased lightning....sonny

The Model 12 requires a slight forward movement of the pump for the bolt to release. This is usually taken care of by recoil. If you are holding a lot of rearward pressure on the slide, the bolt can fail to unlock. If you are having to "jiggle" the slide a little to get it to move rearward and load another shell, this is probably what is happening. Try shooting with a relaxed grip on the slide, and firmly seating the stock to your shoulder with your trigger hand. Both of my Model 12's are very smooth. If your problem persists it may be in need of a good cleaning. As unfamiliar with them as you sound in your post's I would suggest having this done by a professional.
