I inherited an old Winchester model 12 shotgun that will not hold extra shells in the magazine tube. It looks like the shell stop will not engage to keep the rounds held in the tube. I doesn't look like the Shell stop is exessively worn. I'm not familliar with the way the mechanism secures the rounds until the pump is cycled to chamber a new round.

I had the extractors replaced in by my local shop (they sent it to a smith) and haven't used it since then. It may not have been reassembled correctly. Any suggestions on what might be causing this problem (and how to fix it)? Thanks for any help.

The shells on a model 12 are supposed to stick about 1/2in out of the mag tube and catch on a nub on the front top of the carrier and on the catch on front bottom of bolt ....The shell stop holds rounds in mag tube while the action is being cycled....
