Winchester Model 67 bolt springs

I am working on a Winchester model 67 ss bolt action rifle that would not fire every time the bolt was pulled back. Safety moves back and forth and works. When I dis-assembled the bolt, found that the smaller of the 2 springs called a bolt retention spring, #1667 was mangled beyond repair. What I cannot find is how exactly the spring is to be positioned when installed correctly. I know I have to make a spring for it. Not much info on these old things anymore. Any help is appreciated!
