I have a Winchester Model 70 (express model I think) in 30-06. It's a field grade gun with a moderate to light profile barrel. This is the generic Walmart version that was originally sold with a hardwood stock. It wears a Hogue Overmolded stock now. Anyhow, I've had it for approximately 10 years and I've shot both 150 and 180 gr Remington PSP ammunition through it.

I know individual rifles have difference preferences, but I'm wondering if anyone knows the rate of twist for this rifle and theoretically which weight of bullet would/should be more accurate.

Thanks,

It's usually the rifle itself that determines accuracy. Of course some loads shoot better than others also.

You should start with an optimum bullet weight for the game you hunt and the distance you have to cover.

Then try various loads. Most of us hunt deer and the 150 gr 30-06 is good.

The rifle may shoot better with improvements to it's bedding and many other factors such as it's scope, trigger, crown etc.

I have been handloading for rifles and tuning them since 1953 and my favorite 30-06 shoots both the Berger 155 VLD and Nosler Ballistic Tips well.
