I came across an early post-64 Winchester Model 70 that dates from 1966 or 67, IIRC, and I know nothing about these rifles. I'd be looking for a general-purpose hunting rifle, and to me this seems like the one to go with. I'm a reloader, so I'd be able to have various loadings for different game. Plus, and I know it sounds silly, it's really a beautiful rifle. My wife even said it's "not as ugly" as my other guns. :)

My only serious question would be how were the early actions on the .300 Win Mag rifles? It doesn't appear that this rifle was shot much, if at all, but I'm just curious if they were built strong enough from the beginning.

Nothing at all wrong with that action. Plenty strong.

The post-'64 rifles were every bit as accurate as the earlier ones; some were even better. I had one of those limited-numbers 26" barrel .264s, 1965-ish, and it was right at being a tack driver.

Shoot and enjoy!
