The vast majority of the shooting that I've done has been of the plinking at cans variety. But I'm interested in improving my skills and teaching my son how to shoot. Having a series of goals to aim for seems like just the thing, so I'm going to have us go through one or more of the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification programs.

We don't have a club to go to, and I haven't been able to find anybody that even teaches the basic NRA courses for rifle or handgun within 100 miles, so we're on our own.

I've read through the descriptions of all the different qualification programs, and am trying to figure out which ones we should work on first.

There seems to be a natural progression of BB Gun-> Air Rifle -> Smallbore Rifle -> Light Rifle -> American Rifleman, as each one goes to either a more powerful rifle or allows more sophisticated equipment.

But I don't know where to put the Hunter qualification. Should we start out with that one, or put it somewhere in the middle?

Any other suggestions for going through this program together with my boy?
