Winchester (old) serial number resource?

Buddy just inherited a (his words) really nice shape old Winchester Carbine is .30WCF. I want to research it for him since he needs it! I am betting it is an old one because of the .30 WCF calibre!

Question, is .30WCF and 30-30 compatible? I seem to remember that the cartridge .30 WCF was simply re-named 30-30 later in it's life....thanks again and I really appreciate the link!
