I am getting my new rolading area set up and also adding a work station for cleaning/ maintance and was wondering if those winchester screwdriver sets are any good?. And if not what good all around set would you recomend for working on both handguns and rifles??.

I have seen several Winchester screw driver sets and they seemed to be of good quality, and the tips looked to be properly ground, but I have yet to use a set. The first screw driver set I bought was the Chapman set and I still use it frequently. You may also want to consider Brownell's basic set and add to it as the need arises. If you lke the Winchester set, by all means go for it. :)

If you are talking about the $10 Winchester set from Walmart, they are better than nothing but far from good quality.

+1

I keep a similiar cheap set from Wallyworld upstairs for simple gunsmith use like taking a sideplate screw out of a S&W for cylinder cleaning.

But I don't use them in the basement for normal gun repair work.
Too much risk of a bit snapping off in a tight screw and marring a gun.

The best available are the Brownell's Magna-Tip driver bits.
They're very high quality, very smooth, and very hard bits.
Damage one and all you have to do is email Brownell's and they'll send you a replacement.....FREE.

I recommend buying one of the Law Enforcement size handles. They're the perfect size for good control. The large size handle is too big and the stubby handle is too small.

The Brownell's sets are the industry standard and are perfect for the job. Like all really quality tools you only have to buy them once a lifetime so you actually save money.
