What's the real story on these cartridges? A couple of years ago I bought a Winchester 1885 High Wall Hunter in 270wsm. Decided to sell it this year, so I put it on consignment at my local gunshop. After a couple of months, I asked the owner if he had any interest, and he said several people looked at it but all said it was the wrong caliber. He said all the WSM,s are on the endangered list and won,t be produced commercially much longer. So, only someone interested in reloading would buy it. On the other hand it's a Winchester, which are not made anymore and if the round is discontinued does it make it worth more or am I totally screwed on this gun?

ammo

Don't feel pressured by the sales guy.The short mag calibers are produced (rifles and ammo) by other companies other than Winchester.Did the sales guy tell you too lower your price??More points in it for him!

What....

Telling you the WSM are on the endangered list is absurbed!!! The .300 WSM is very popular as well as the .325 WSM. As for you .270 WSM it not as popelar but is a great cartridge. If I was going on a high end sheep hunt the
.270 WSM would be one of my first choices.

Your High Wall is going to go to the person looking for one and not the aveage "joe" looking for a hunting rifle. Remember that hunting season isn't here yet.

If things don't work out for you with that gun dealer. Alway try Gunbroker.com

Good Luck....

I think the fact that Winchester guns is out of business gives a lot of potential buyers of your gun the feeling that ammo for the WSM cartridges might be hard to find in the future. I won't argue whether this is perception or reality, just that I can see where some folks might come to that conclusion. Your average guy at the gun store looking to buy a deer rifle probably isn't aware that the Winchester guns and Winchester ammunition people are two different entities.
