In September last year my forearm cracked near the forearm release latch while shooting sporting clays with my 10 year old Winchester Supreme Select Sporting O/U. I contacted Winchester and once it was in their hands they agreed to fix under warranty:). 6 months later I get my shotgun back and it looks as good as new.

Before it was repair the gun was solid, but I wouldn't describe as tight, it would fall almost all the way open when using the top lever. After the replacement forearm I put the gun back together and it is really stiff, I preferred the feel before repair.

Even though the action is now stiff and the forearm snaps back solidly there is play at the front of the forearm where it meets the barrel. I am concerned that any play might cause it to crack again.

Any thoughts, I have been told the action is similar to Beretta's but I have nothing to base that on.

Are the screws in the forearm loose? If so, tighten them. There should not be any play in an O/U forearm, otherwise your conclusion about cracking again can become a reality
