Hello, while browsing long guns at Academy a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a semi-auto shotgun on the display for $398.00. So, I asked to take a look at it. It turned out to be a Win SX2 Ranger 12ga 3in. Hmmmmm. Pretty nice.
Real nice looking wood, bluing seemed nice, the reciever is matt and the barrel is polished, and the action was very smooth. It was then that i noticed that it was made by FN Belgium. This SG got me interested.

Figured I would do some research before plunking down my money. Winchester's website had no listing for this model. Took a look on some auction sites with no luck. Did a search on THR and another forum, no luck.
Went back to Academy to take another look. I bought it.:D

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here knows about this SG or even seen one. To me, it seemed like a good deal for a semi. I'm just looking for any feedback on this particular model. I have read good things about the SX2 line. After I get to shoot it my self I will post my findings. Thanks.

Shoot straight,

I would have guessed Ranger = hardwood stock, but after a little googling I see it advertised as walnut. That price is a steal.

Here's one for $519 www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976730072.htm
Nice looking gun.

I saw a few others going for up to $640.

I love my SX-2 Waterfowl/MOSG. List was a little over $1200 and I got it in like-new condition without the box for a little over $700.

Definitely a steal. Ranger is Winchester's generic name for their working guns, but their Ranger shotguns are a LOT nicer than their Ranger 94's were.

Congrats on a good buy!

(From the picture, I see that Winchester put the safety in the right place on the SX2 :) )

That is the one! I just could not pass on this SG. Seemed like too good of a deal to me. After taking it home and really checking it out, I was (still) tempted to go and buy the other one they had, but I have an AR15 in the works right now.
I have not shot much of anything since Katrina because my house flooded. Been working on it. With a little luck, I, and my family will be back in it by mid - late July. Then back to shooting as normal.
This will be used mostly for clays and the like. I do not want to tear up this one in the marsh. My waterfoul SG is a Benelli Nova. Been using it for 3 seasons now and it works quite well. Only thing is, you have to keep the finish on the barrel oiled up pretty good or it starts to rust real fast. :( Not too big a deal as long as I stay on top of it.

Thanks for the replies

I was looking at a Ranger a few days back and called Winchester to ask what made the Ranger different from anything else, since it wasn't on the website. After being transfered a few times, I eventually found out that it was a 2005 SHOT Show special, and is very similiar to the field.

Good price.
