Window stickers a good idea?

I've yet to put any type of firearm-related sticker/advertisement on my vehicles. I prefer not being noticed for that.

I have a NRA sticker on the window and a bumper sticker that says "I don't trust a government that doesn't trust me with a firearm". Thinking about a new one that has a target and says "YOU ARE IN RANGE" I will lock my vehicle when firearms are in it however. Other times all they will get is some used brass and some targets with the middle area missing. :D

CU74:

I have never understood my fellow man's apparent need to provide free advertisements for the companies/causes/organizations that have "accepted" their money. Glock stickers on bumpers. Logos on shirts and jackets. Vegan signs in vehicle windows. ***?

I would guess they do it for bragging rights, i.e., "Please note my descerning choice.", or maybe to plug a product that they think is worthy.

No matter which, all it really says is, "Of all the vehicles in the area, your best chance of stealing a firearm is right here!"

For bragging rights, I put stickers of organizations I belong to on my vehicle, but soon came to realize that only other members who belonged to EAA, IAC, ARRL, etc, were the only ones who knew what they meant! But that's okay since it is an invitation to have conversation with other members.

When I lived in Connecticut I had a sticker that said "this truck is protected by Smith and Wesson" I took it off when a trooper pulled me over for speeding and used the sticker as a reason to search my truck, the sticker came off before I pulled back onto the highway.

Help me understand. The trooper said in plain language that because of your bumper sticker, he was going to search your vehicle? I'd be interested in details if you care to provide them. I find this amazing .... unless Connecticut is extremely gun hostile like Wisconsin and Illinois (which have no conceal carry provision in the law whatsoever).

Did the trooper say what he was searching for?

Thanks for any additional information you are willing to provide.

My little pick-up has the sticker in the back window with a picture of human siluette with holes in it.."Body Piercing by .45 ACP"...never a break-in, an is it me or has the
tail gating dropped off.....?

I too am interested in this incident, it sounds pretty dirty of the trooper if that was his only reason (which doesn't seem like a valid one at all).

This was about 1992 , I was just home from the Gulf, being from Florida I had a 4x4 dodge pick up ,raised a bit ,with a Florida plate. That seemed to be enough.I was speeding about 10 miles over the limit on the highway.Close to the border of Mass. Once pulled over I stated I am a U.S. Marine just out of the Gulf war. He asked me if I was choosing to stay in Conn and if so I needed to get my plate changed from Florida. Then came the sticker issue, he asked me if there were any firearms in the vehicle, I said no why?he said the sticker.I said no not today,he mentioned that our gun laws in Florida didn't transfer up to Conn, I said that was fine I had nothing in the car and if he would like to look feel free, he did, found my Kabar and busted my balls on that, overall I believe he was going to bust my chops for being out of state and the Sticker just gave him something else to be a tool about. He let me drive away with a nice speeding ticket and that was all, I now live back in Florida.

Please don't take this as criticism...

However, I'm not abandoning the 1A because someone might make assumptions.

My 2001 F250 has one bumpersticker that says "Annoy A Liberal: Work, Succeed, and Be Happy", and another that says "Honk If I Pay Your Mortgage"... There's a Don't Tread On Me" flag-sticker, an American Flag sticker, an NRA sticker, and a FOP Associate Member sticker in the back window. If that is a bad idea, I'll deal with the consequences. I've just decided there's no value to the truck, or in the truck, that's more important to me than refusing to be cowed into hiding my opinions out of fear of someone else's potential reaction to them. Yes, stealth has it's merits. So does free expression. It's a balancing act.

My thoughts exactly, and well said. I am NOT going to let the jerks win. :cuss:

You know, we never have to and should never give consent to ANY police officer to search our vehicle, house or person. Even if we have nothing to hide. They can search if they think there`s probable cause but never give consent. You gave up your rights by doing that. Give them nothing. Best regards.

You told him he could search and he did. He didnt use the sticker as a reason to search your truck.

I never said It was the sticker that was his sole purpose to asking to look in my vehicle.I simply stated it helped him in being an ass toward me. You can go on with this all day, point being rights or no rights there are some things that peak a law enforcement officers curiosity,no he had no right to look,I gave it to him because I'm not a criminal and have nothing to hide, you asked for the details I'm giving them to you,if you were familiar of my location at the time ,it was also past midnight ,and the reputation of New england troopers with southerners you would realize there is a time to just say OK and be done with it. My opinion, but this started as a sticker thread, and if any issues came from them.

WRS840, I completely agree with you about consequences and courage. I just rely on my "in person" influence on others rather than my car's posterior. People who get around me are challenged to think. No editor-spoonfed-soundbite-follower types are allowed in my presence for more than 15 minutes.

Fair enough BrianB.

The thread is about car stickers, though, so I limited my thoughts (on 1A expression) to car stickers. My stickers may be a little pushy for those who are offended, but they're there mostly to let those who may agree that they're not alone...

No sticker on car, never leave gun in car. Sticker on house, is a deterrent. If going to a gun show or some ware where you can't take your gun, either don't bring a gun, or bring a pistol, remove the clip or slide or both. Or invest in a gun safe and weld or lock it to the vehicle in a way that will just take too much time to get apart. Taking the clip, and slide is really pretty simple, and since the receiver is the actual gun, you can take the slide or clip with you, not the other way around. Letting folks know you have strong enough feelings to display them on your car is good enough reason to arouse suspicion to police or criminals. If it's legal for you to carry a firearm, none of this should really be of much concern as you have the right to have the gun in the first place

I try to pass through this world every day as inconspicuously as possible (gray man). If trouble happens I am prepared to deal with it but I prefer not to leave an "attitude" trail behind me.

What is the point of advertising your views or affiliations on your vehicle? Or placing your possessions on your front lawn? IMNSHO it is asking for trouble and it will not convert anyone to your point of view. It's a good way to get your vehicle paint "keyed".

IMHO with the exception of military affiliation widow stickers, nothing should be affixed to a vehicle if you want to avoid conflict.

I do have local alarm company stickers on my doors because they have been proven to be somewhat of a deterrent.

...if you want to avoid conflict...

I'm sure the "gray man" approach is one of the best possible choices when one's highest concern is self-preservation.

Human Liberty was not gained inconspicuously though, nor will it be preserved, I fear, if everyone's primary goal is to remain anonymous.

I recently bought an older pickup. I considered my usual NRA/USMC decals on the windows, but we too had a string of break-ins in my area too, so I thought "Why advertise...."

I'm not saying it's right, but in todays society, when we advertise...we shouldn't be surprised when the BG's act on it...It's a shame that we've slid that far. Those low-lifes
make a career of "opportunity"...I won't give 'em one, and I certainly won't advertise my
firearms....

stickers

I have always had the NRA sticker on my vehicals. and never been stopped
because of it.it would seem that certain states have police with bad atitudes.
also some states have a high level of theives.especialy southern states.even Mass does not hassel like these posts.
I traveled from Mass to Florida and never got stopped.but one thing I do is keep below the speed limit.
If your traveling from floida to north it might pay to get off I 95.I drove from Mass I84 to scranton to I81 to I 77.Its a little longer but no trafic lights.or I take I 64 to I 95 and then down.as I live of I 95 in SC.

Funny story.

We go hiking on the BLM my GF and I.

I put on my travel vest, and stuff it with 2 1911's, 3 extra magazines, the .380, 150 extra rounds of .45, and 70 rounds of .380 ACP.

Yeah.

Not even the ammo I left behind. That was 15 pounds of stuff I carried just because I did not want any smash and grabber getting lucky scoring my handguns and ammo and mags!

I had to leave the Mosin at home.
