Wingmaster 12 guage at one of the local shops.....

I went with a buddy to pick up a CZ Ringneck that he was buying. On the shelf of used shotguns was a Wingmaster 12 guage. Fairly well used but not beat up. Some of the blueing was worn from the reciever. The wood was nice, with only a few little dings and scratches. It had a barrel with no vent rib. Just round all the way. I kind of liked the sight picture it created.

They only wanted $189.00 for it. I am not up on prices of Wingmasters. I have had a regular 870 or two but this is the first time a Wingmaster caught my eye.

Is that a steal at that price?

I imagine it is an older one and it will only shoot 3 inch shells, but that doesn't bother me.

Not a bad price, one liked you described are running about $300 around my neck of the woods. Barrels can be had easily. Some older models only took 2 3/4 shells, which is enough if you know how to use the gun.

That shotgun's name is Cinderella and it wants to be yours. Buy it, cherish it, exercise it regularly..

Despite the age and condition, it's got decades of use still in it.

I shot Number 6 at the range with the Geezer Squad today. I may have been high gun. 6 was made in 1955. I've put a few thousand rounds through it in the three years or so I've had it and expect it to outlast me by decades.

Put $175 in cash on the counter and see if they'll bite. Around here used Wingmasters in good shape go for $250 and up.

Could be it's a 2 3/4" only gun. If so, that's no real big deal, that's plenty of shell for everything you're likely to do with the gun. My oldest 870s are both 2 3/4" only guns and it has never been a problem.

The receiver should tell you what it will handle- just look at the serial number. If it ends in an M then it's a magnum receiver (3" shells), anything else and it isn't. You can't necessarily go by what's on the barrel since they interchange easily. I see relatively few used Wingmaster Magnums around here, I bought the last one I ran across because it was a good deal at $150. It had worse cosmetic problems than the one you describe but is mechanically sound, and it had a 2 3/4" chambered barrel on it (which I sold since there was a blued 3" Police gun barrel waiting for it at home).

Good luck on the deal and keep looking, there are always Cinderella 870s needing good homes and I can't adopt 'em all.

If the is nice, that's a good good price. If the bore has pits, leave it where it sits.

I wouldn't have left it in the store. My field grade WM came at about $225 IIRC. It was my first Trap gun and is still my favorite, despite having others that are dedicated to the sport. I still owe Dave pics of the Wenig stock.
