The Remington 870 Wingmaster was made with a 3.5 inch chamber for one year in 2000. I have no idea how many were made. At the time, I was in college and bought one new. It was a month and a half's rent, but I had different priorities then.

Anyhow, my 11-87 is and was my primary shotgun and the Wingmaster was purchased to have a pump back-up. I've put two or three boxes of target shells through it at the trap range and other than that is has sat in the safe. I have all original tools, choke tubes, and paper work, but the box was discarded the when we moved four years ago. It is in near new condition.

Long story short, I'm thinking of selling it but don't know if these carry any premium or not. There are not many, so I wasn't able to find a reference on the auction sites. Has anyone seen what these go for?

I don't know Dude I thought they were still making them. I think ya can go buy 1 today.

Lookslike 2000 was the 1st year, one in 95%, and thats about what you'll get with mint and no box, is $400.

The 3-1/2" Wingmaster, as well as the 30" Light Contour barreled 12 gauge 3" Wingmaster version, are no longer being produced. The number of people willing to pay more for a well finished pump gun is dwindling. And some semis really take a lot of the bite out of the supermag loads.
Does yours have the plain polished receiver, or is it covered in scroll rollmarking reminiscent of when Browning and Remington tried to outdo each other seeing who could put the most "stuff" on a receiver? (Browning won because of no ejection port IMO) From what I have seen, most people who want a Wingmaster or nothing in a pump, like the old plain polished receiver sides. If you are patient you may find someone willing to go $450. I would imagine 3-1/2" heavy loads would be rather eye opening in any pump. I shot a Mossberg back in the early 90s, and it was pretty harsh, but I swear it was less masochistic than a Benelli SBE. I shot a specially lightened BPS 10 gauge and it was stout, but the ultimate in effective before the blessed arrival of tungsten alloy and/or matrix loads.

Is this it?

MODEL 870 WINGMASTER 3 1/2 IN. SUPER MAGNUM
12 ga. only, 28 in. VR barrel with choke tubes, high polish blue with receiver engraving, high gloss walnut stock and forearm with cut checkering, 7 1/2 lbs. Mfg. 2000-2006.

The Blue Book says $610 in 100% condition.

Rick, that's it. Remington's site only lists it as being made for one year and I never see them in shops. It has the high gloss stock, scroll work, and polished blue 28 in. vent rib barrel.

I'm trying to decide if I should unload it. I'm moving more into handguns since my weak arm is partly disabled.

ETA: Virginian, I have the same feeling about Browning and Remington "engraving" during that time. I personally love the look of the old plain polished Wingmaster receivers.

wingmaster

Friend of mine had one and it was a butt-kicker to shoot in a goose pit with those heavy loads. He used it half of one season and then got rid of it.

I've always figured it would be. I've never shot anything heavier that 2 3/4 light upland loads on the trap range. I would want an autoloader for 3 1/2 shells.

Bought this back when I had more money than sense, and I didn't have much money.

I'm trying to figure out how the Original Post is 16 minutes after, my answer?! or is that 12 hours later?

Any way I hope you do get $600 for it. I was just sayin without the box it might be disappointing. I think its a fine shotgun and I would keep it.

Sorry about the wrong information about still being able to get it. I must of got an old website.

And , barring the time travel event, it seemed like you were waiting a long time for an answer. I was pretty sure if I responded. Then you would have plenty of help.

To be fair to myself, I did have priorities. I was single and in college, and working. I paid tuition, rent on a tiny apartment, and the rest (not much) went to fun with friends, bird and deer hunting. I saved for quite a while to purchase the gun. It just hasn't gotten much use since. It wasn't wise to spend close to two months rent on a shotgun, but I had always loved Wingmasters and really wanted one as my first "new" gun. It's funny because now I long for the old ones.

Having a wife, kids, mortgage, etc. changes things a bit. I make a lot more money than in those days, but I swallow harder about such a purchase now. I can't imagine spending a couple of mortgage payments on a gun now, though a nice 1911 wouldn't be bad.

ETA: I don't mind making fun of myself, especially when I deserve it. It makes me feel freer to do it to others :)
