Looking to buy a new rifle, Currently interested in the Winny mod 70 featherweight, in .30-06. i like the look of the features of hte new FNH built model 70's, CRF, MOA Trigger, new barrel, etc. while still retaining the looks of hte older ones. I hate that its not chambered in .280 remington, but oh well. What compares to the mod 70 feather, thats in about the same price range (875 msrp). I"d likely slap the best Leupold scope i can afford on it, VX3 or similar... even VX7 if i can afford it.

Love my Model 70 Featherweight!
Overall I highly recomend the Featherweight to anyone that wants a rifle that looks and feels as good as it shoots. If all you are worried with it accuracy though Tikka makes the most accurate rifle under 6.5lbs and $1,000 without a doubt.

Havent thought about a T3 yet... I don't see any claims about there MOA guarentee on there site but i don't think i've ever heard a bad thing about a Tika... but i would honestly rather stick with the Winny, just because its still made right here....

I see the Featherweights selling for $700-$750. I'd go that route and put a VX-2 3-9X40 with long range dots on it and be set.

Slightly cheaper would be the Ruger Hawkeye and the Kimber would be more expensive.

I could live with any of those. Have several Winchesters and a Kimber. If forced to hunt with only one it would be the Featherweight in 30-06.

Thanks guys. I'm sold. My wife told me... OK... you get $2500 out of taxes to buy 3 guns... a CCW piece for yourself, a CCW piece for me, and a hunting rifle for yourself... so i'm getting...

1: Winny mod 70 featherweight with Leupold Rifleman or VX1 mounted in All Leupold hardware. chambered in .30-06 unless i find an older one used in great shape in .280
2: Kimber Pro TLE II, Night sights, Hogue Grips. New in box only.

she's getting...
Taurus something or other, then having it modded/dipped/Duracoated to be pretty in pink.... i won't allow her to pretty in pink something expensive so its gonna be a Taurus Millenium pro PT145 likely. she liked the 3 she shot, and shot them very very very very well... then take it to local gunsmith and have him Engrave/laser etch some hello Kitty into it and duracoat it pink, with pink grips. its what she wants... who am i to deny her....

Cool, I think you will love the Winchester, while mine won't match my Tikka on the bench it is every bit as accurate as I am in the woods and when you are hunting that is all that counts.
280 is a great cartrage, but if you cannot find one in the CRF 70 consider a 7mm-08 it runs hot on the heels of the 280 and does so in a short action. Ballisticly the 7-08 can throw 140gr bullets up to 3000fps with handloads or Superformance factory ammo, putting it a tad over factory 280 and only 150fps slower then max loaded 280. Recoil of the 7-08 is also a bit lighter then it's long action cousin, only slightly more then 243/6.5x55 recoil makeing it suitable for female/youth shooters as well.

I've never seen so many threads on the Featherweight as this last week. I just bought one myself 2 days ago. I went with the stainless version in .243, as I have other rifles in larger calibers.

I think the Lines/curves of the featherweight is just amazing. i wish the stock was different color, as the almost orange brown is kinda ugly, but the wood underneath is quite beautiful... i've stripped and refinished many. i prefer a natural oil rubbed look. but as far as accuracy... if it can maintain a 1 MOA out to 300 yds, thats 100% good nuff for me... i'll never take a further shot than 300 yds, and if i do, than if its moa to 300, i'm sure a .30-06 can be relied on to make a further shot if needed... i put a lot of thought into caliber.. i want my wife to be able to shoot it as well, and cary it... i thought of a smaller caliber, but remingtons managed recoil loads are very mild, and she should be able to shoot it just fine. 7mm-08 would be my next bet.
