It is possible that I may need to relocate to the Madison WI area next spring.

I come from the PRK, so don't think it can be any worse.

Also, any political movements at the state level that are pro RKBA?

I have responded to a CCW for WI poll that someone here asked us to vote on about a month ago.

Thank you

Madison- Center of the social justice, tree hugging, anti-gun world. I think they even have a local ban on handguns sales.

The rest of the state is fine with guns.:)

What about Beloit, or Rock County?

I may have the option for Northern Illinois, would this be better?

OK, quick rundown on WI gun laws.

There is no ban in Madison on handguns. There was one on the books back in the mid-1990's, but it was eliminated when the NRA and statewide gun groups got a pre-emption law passed that prevented muncipalities from enacting gun control laws more strict than state law.

That said, the powers that be in Madison pressure gun shop owners to the point where only one or maybe two carry handguns.

Outside of Madison? The state is very gun-friendly. Probably one of the most gun-friendly states in the country. The only thing we lack is shall-issue concealed carry, and the gun groups are working hard on that. If all gun owners get involved, we should be able to override the governor's veto of the concealed carry bill.

No gun owner ID cards, no having to go and beg the sheriff or police chief. If you're legal under federal law, you can buy. There's a waiting period for handgun purchases (next to be nixed, if we get CCW). No wait for long gun purchases.

No restrictions on full-auto's, although you may have to shop around to find a sheriff to sign your Form 4.

The range protection act prevents pain-in-the-butt new residents from shutting down shooting ranges. If the range was there, it's protected.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms amendment to the state constitution has been slowly chipping away at the total ban on concealed carry. If the legislature can't pass the CCW bill, the court will very slowly dismantle that law, piece by piece.

There are some states that are more pro-gun, but there are many more that are more restrictive. I think you'll find WI is better than you expected.

I used to live in Wisconsin. Most of the state is as level-headed and friendly as you could hope to find. Most of the state is clean. It's a great state to eat in. Winters are definitely wintry. It continues to amaze me Wisconsin doesn't have shall issue and CCW.

It's the only state where I've seen lots of grown men drink milk, as well as the only state where I've seen people openly drink beer with sandwiches and cookies from lunch boxes on jobs.

From what I have read, if you move from CA, to IL, you will move to a more restrictive state.

Doesn't WI have state pre-empted open carry?

Often times when I go to the local bars I will order a glass of milk :D. And there is nothing wrong with drinking milk, and being a grown man :p

Anyways, Wisconsin is friendly to gun owners,we just need CCW. Most of the state is nice, however some parts of Milwaukee county (where I live) have been going downhill. We had 122 murders last year, vs under 80 the year before. If I am not mistaken our homicide rate is higher then chicago last year. One other thing that isn't so good is that property taxes in milwaukee are outrageous, and you can't buy alcohol after 9pm (I believe its statewide) in grocery stores (you can at bars, until 2 am).

As they are in pretty much the rest of the state, though not quite as bad as Milwaukee from what I hear. $3000-4000 in property taxes per year could buy you a lot of nice guns. :banghead:
They don't tax the crap out of our beer at least.
Is there anything wrong with grown men drinking milk? First time I ever heard the concept questioned:confused:

The attiude about guns is that they are pretty much a part of life. The only people who I've run into that are antigun 'true believers' are transplants from other states or other countries, or mainly live in the metropolitan areas.

Another restriction that I don't think anyone noted is that guns need to be unloaded and fully encased when in transit in cars, boats, ATVs, and Snowmobiles.
