If you are from South Milwaukee, please contact me immediately via e-mail.

Everyone in Milwaukee and surrounding counties needs to attend and speak at the meeting.

South Milwaukee City Administration Building, Common Council Chambers
2424 15th Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI 53172
Tuesday, June 16, 7:00 PM

The city of South Milwaukee is debating a city-wide ban on firearms in:

- Any public park.
- Any playground.
- Any premises licensed to sell alcohol.

The proposed ordinance would embolden police to write $2,500 to $10,000 tickets as a deterrent to lawful activity, according to Police Chief Ann Wellens.

Based on a similar previous ordinance, I believe this is just the beginning, and the next step will ban lawful carry in public, followed by a ban in stores open to the public. Wisconsin already bans law-abiding citizens from carrying a sidearm for personal security in bars, school "zones," public buildings (including bathrooms!), vehicles, and in any manner that might be considered even remotely "concealed." These same laws are ignored when criminals break them while committing crimes, and only serve to prohibit law-abiding citizens from being safe.

16. Discussion/possible motion on proposed amendments to Section 23 of the Municipal Code regarding regulations pertaining to firearms.

How could this possibly fly. We still have a state amendment that states local ordinances can't be more restrictive than sate law. I know the Doyle was trying to repeal it but hasn't yet. Probably won't stop Mil sheriff form ordering "his troups from arresting any one with a gun"

I aaaaa didn't even know that anyone could carry in this state, at least thats what I was told.

We have no concealed cary. Technically open carry is legal but you will probably get arrested for disturbing the peace.
Especily in Mil of Madison where they consider a folding pocket knife a concealed weapon.

Not anymore. Brad Krause's case, along with an opinion issued by the state attorney general, has changed things. Open carry is legal, and the police have to be very careful in how they respond.

I've been wanting to post a detailed message, but haven't been able to find the time to do it, and will post a brief message instead.

I want to thank the people who attended for the fantastic turnout at the South Milwaukee council meeting. It was an unexpectedly quick defeat of a bad ordinance, and credit should be given to Alderwoman Lisa Pieper and Mayor Thomas Zepecki, along with the other three aldermen who voted properly.

Some people were disappointed there wasn't more of a fight, and should attend the next Greenfield city council legislative meeting, where things look favorable for defeating the proposed ordinance, but we don't know how things will turn out.
