What would I like to see Ruger manufacture?

I would like to see Ruger make a clone of the Marlin 1894 in 357 magnum. For whatever reason, Marlin seems to have fallen asleep at the switch. I’ve had an 1894c in 357 on backorder for almost a year and my dealer has no idea when they will become available.

I like the rugged, robust, and over-engineered approach that Ruger uses in making their guns. I like that they are made in USA.

I’m not looking for a revival of the 96/44. Although I’ve never actually seen one in person, the looks in the catalog photos never appealed to me.

I’m not looking for a Winchester clone. There are plenty of those on the market. I own several Winchesters and they are fine rifles, but the Marlin 1894 has several features that I prefer.

Three features that I am really like are:

I like the solid top that allows for the easy mounting of aperture sights or optics on the receiver.

I like the way the bolt comes out for easy cleaning of the barrel from the breech.

I like the side loading port for the tube magazine. One can easily top off the magazine in the middle of the action. Also, here in New York State, detachable box magazines can be problematic.

I would like to see it first in 357 magnum/38 Special. It is important to me that it handle both the 38 and 357. One source of irritation with my Winchester 1892 is that is does not feed standard length 38s. I have to load them to an OAL of 1.505 or greater to feed reliably.

No doubt there would be a market for 44 mag and 45 Colt as well.

What added features would I like? Taking an example from their Gunsite scout rifle, I would like to see a receiver mounted aperture sight and a forward mounted Picatinny rail right from the factory.

I don’t know if there any patent issues regarding clones of the Marlin 1894. Certainly there are lot of clones of the 1894 and 1892 Winchesters. Seeing that Ruger is now making a 1911 clone, I hope they would consider the lever gun clone as well.

If this gun came out tomorrow, I would be first in line to buy one.

I would like to see an improvement on the Gunsite Scout.

It's not exactly the ideal scout rifle IMHO. It needs a lighter weight stock of whatever material, they need to ditch the flash hider and go with an 18-20" bbl, add a third sling swivel for a Ching sling, work on the bolt mechanism to stop it from hanging up while closing, and add a stripper clip guide for the magazine.

I personally think the Gunsite Scout is more a product of marketing than it is about trying to be a true scout rifle. YMMV.

I know this is the rifle thread, but as for revolvers Ruger needs to either reintroduce the Security Six line or at least reintroduce the GP100s with the half-lug barrels on them.

How about an American rifle in pistol calibers?

Target grey GP100 with 8" barrel, checkered wood grips and in 41magnum.

A totally new design of lever action rifle that Ruger can call their own.

i'm game for a lever action, but don't much care for the forward pic rail, and their aperture sights could use some work.

refinements to the scout rifle would be nice. quality synthetic stock, lighter profile barrel, better sights, and hinged floorplate with 5 round capacity for .308.

i'd like to see a .44spl gp100, and see them add adjustable sights to the 3" models.

i'd also like to see an 18 or 20" version of the sr762 with a stainless medium contour bbl.

As far as the lever action design......look at the no.1 varminter on the website. The lever is half way there already, the receiver would come up to where the forearm gets thicker, whack 6" off the barrel, bring a tube magazine close to even with barrel, add iron sights and put a fixed picatinny rail on top of the receiver. If you look and use your imagination you can see this new revolutionary lever gun looks like.

I've long felt that Ruger made a huge mistake not making the Mini-14 compatible with AR-15 magazines. Add to that a military-type, oxide finish (parkerizing), and a stock flash supressor, and I think the Mini would have never had nearly the loss in popularity it's seen in recent years.

I know this is a rifle thread, but I want a 3" 5-shot GP100 in .44 spl. Sorry.

those Ruger carbines in .45 were the best....but whenever something works....they usually quit making them.....the Deerfields in various chamberings were the best. guess same reason Remington quit the 788s.

Ruger is great at bringing new designs and variants into production. Keltec is great at creating interesting new designs that will never see the light of day in significant numbers. I wish Ruger would partner with Keltec ( or just "borrow" some of their designs) to produce some of the more interesting guns Keltec has dreamed up in significant quantities.

Specifically I wish Ruger would actually build a copy of the RMR-30 carbine that Keltec has been teasing the internet with for 3 years...

I too would be interested in a 357 lever action from Ruger.

Maybe with their new facility in N.C. it would give them more product line. :)

I'd like to see a rifle similar to the 77/357 offered in one or more of the following cartridges:
30 carbine
32-20
25-20
256 Win Mag
Anyone of the above cartridges can be easily reloaded with cast bullets and offer inexpensive shooting.

Ruger No. 1s in more calibers instead of limited editions.....bring back the .257 Roberts, .308s othr popular calibers again.

They dialed back on the calibers for the 77 Hawkeye. I wanted to get a 6.5 Creedmoor...they aren't on their website anymore.

I'd like a more affordable M14 clone to match against the M1A...maybe an M1 Garand too.

Add to that a military-type, oxide finish (parkerizing), and a stock flash supressor
My model 582 Mini 14 does have a stock flash supressor. It like it ok, but for me serves better as something to help protect the crown than hiding a flash. But that is just me :)

YES!

Protecting the crown is a critical benefit of any flash-hider, and personally I think it's a more-important function than "hiding" the flash.

I don't like the look of the Ruger factory flash-hider. Therefore, I removed it and added a British L1A1 (FAL) 'hider. Numrich has them for around ten bucks, I think.

Just shorten the rear of the L1A1 device about 3/8" and screw it on. Then file or grind as necessary to bring the bayonet lug to the 6:00 position. When it gets there, use red loctite to secure it. Hundreds of rounds have been fired in my Mini without budging the flash-hider.....and, you can even mount the L1A1 BAYONET for "serous social encounters"!

I think a PC-9 updated to accept SR9 mags. Then on to a stripper guide on the scout with a synthetic stock

+1 for revamping the GSR..to a 20" barrel....offered with a chamber safe for 308 and 7.62....also the rifle offered in 223/5.56.....both rifles available with...5 round blind mag with stripper clip guide intergrated into the removable peepsight...and if/only ruger could add the single set trigger my CZs have.....

First what I would like to see.

I want a return of the blued Bisley Vaquero, preferably in .45colt but .357 would do if I had to.

I'd like a more affordable M14 clone to match against the M1A...maybe an M1 Garand too.

This has been done. It will NOT happen again.

Ruger tried to make an M14 look-alike by upscaling the Mini- action to accept .308. the X-GI was a disaster. it would have cost more than the M1A and the pre-production guns had worse accuracy than the contemporary minis. Ruger determined that too much R&D would be required to solve the accuracy issue, and likely also determined that the target price point was just as out of reach.

In other words it's too late, barring an end to the Chinese import ban, no one is going to be able to sell a worthwhile M1A/M14 or Garand clone for less than Springfield. and certainly not one made in the US.
