Well I've been a gun owner for about a month and tomorrow is the first competition I'm entering. So please wish me well. It's small bore pistol silhouette if you were wondering.

I'm not expecting to do well, because I'm not that great with my Mark III but I plan on having fun, meeting other gun people, and it's only six bucks to enter.

As long as I have a good time, I'm sure I will, I don't care how well I do. I'll win the matches later, much later, until then...

I do hope my BIL wins with his T/C. I'll post a followup tommorow.

Good luck, and have a good time. You should meet some cool people and hopefully make some connections in the shooting world.

Well I had a great day today. It amused me that I was the only one not shooting a Thompson Contender. I have a Ruger Mark III 22/45. I only hit 7 out of 40, but I was very proud of that. It's only about the 8th time I've gone shooting with a handgun and I did better than I thought I would. I managed to knock down at least one of every type of animal, I was especially happy I knocked down a turkey because everyone was talking about how difficult they were. The worst for me were the rams, they disappear behind my front sight at that distance.

It's not a very popular competition here in Central AR so they were only about 8 shooters, but all were very nice and happy to have a newbie there. My BIL tied for second with 19, and he and I were shooting iron sights they all had scopes.

Now I just need to get those Volquartsen things I've heard so much about and get some better ammo. But over all I rate the day a big win. Had a great time, met some nice people, the range was beautiful, and did better than I expected. Can't wait 'till next month.

I used to live near a metalic range. Loved shooting the course.
Have fun and shoot more. Competing is the best form of practice

Going to get hooked? What are you talking about with this going to stuff? Just from hearing about shooting that discipline had me hooked as long as it lived up to my expectations. Did it live up to what I imagined? That and so much more. They even let me shoot my .22 in the second match, which is a centerfire match. They warned me that I probably wouldn't be able to knock over the rams because the targets were much heavier and the rams are at such a distance. I didn't knock over very many targets in the centerfire match, but I did kill a ram so I was happy.

I can't wait to go again, and once I get decent with my gun there is another discipline that I want to try. Falling plate rim fire. The guys out there said my Mark III is better for that type of match. I just want to learn to hit a target in a slow and steady environment so I can get a good hold on the basics of shooting before I sign up for a rapid fire event.
