Am I just cynical or does this response sound like a politician doing a dance? First he says all the right things but in the second paragraph he doesn't commit to anything except 'keep your thoughts in mind'. Another thing that irks me is he used the phrase 'common-sense legislation' which to me is just their orwellian phrase for gun grabbing.
Am I over reacting or should I give the beady eye stare to this huckster?

Thank you for contacting me regarding S.2605, the National Crime Gun Identification Act. I appreciate your thoughts and the opportunity to respond.
I support the Second Amendment right of all law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families. I firmly believe that we do not need more gun control in America; rather we need more criminal control. To that end, I support instant background checks on the purchase of all guns to prevent convicted felons from obtaining them, but I do not support waiting periods or the registration of any firearm. I will continue to work for common-sense legislation that keeps our children safe without infringing upon our Second Amendment rights.
S.2605 would amend the criminal code to prohibit firearm licensees from manufacturing, importing or transferring semiautomatic firearms that are not capable of producing characters onto the cartridge case of the ammunition that indicate the make, model and serial number of the firearm. S.2605 is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind should this bill come before the full Senate for consideration.
