I just got this yesterday from Orrin Hatch.

Dear Mr. [Wes]:
Thank you for your letter regarding a possible extension of the 1994 ban on so-called assault weapons. I appreciate your taking the time to write and I welcome the opportunity to respond.
I share your belief that the 1994 ban on so-called assault weapons was bad policy and unconstitutional. I argued vigorously against this ban whenever it was introduced, but unfortunately, the anti-gun members of the Senate and House were able to implement this ban as part of former President Clinton's 1994 Crime Bill. On the floor of the Senate, during the debate over this proposal, I argued:
"These provisions strike at the heart of our contitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. Other than their appearance, these weapons are not different from millions of other weapons that are always considered legitimate. There are legitimate, lawful purposes for owning these weapons, and I do not believe that we should be opening the door to banning new classes of weapons simply because the media chooses to single them out. The facts do not support the need to ban these weapons."
I will work to see that the ban on so-called assault weapons is not renewed. This ban does not reduce crime. Enforcing the law, and prosecuting those who abuse the right of gun ownership is the proven way to reduce crime.
Thank you again for your letter. Please feel free to contact me about any issue of importance to you.
Sincerely,
Orrin G. Hatch,
United States Senator

The letter was actually signed by him, not a computer printed signature, so I guess he actually read my letter and listened to what I had to say. I am pleased.
What do you know?
Wes
P.S. Still no response from my other senator or my representative.
