Finished up the testing of the Wolf Military Classic 7.62x39 124gr FMJ round. Here are the conditions and results.

Test conditions:
-WASR 10/63
-Test rounds fired from 15 feet
-"FBI spec" (Their term, not mine...) Clear Ballistics gel block

Results:
-2337 FPS, 1503 FT/LBS energy
-31.5'' of penetration
-Tumbled a few times (see video below)

Here's the video showing the test, the permanent cavity, where the bullet started to tumble, and a discussion of the results:

Would be nice to see how the brasscased Yugo FMJ surplus stack up to the commercial steelcased Wolf brand. Unfortunately those are gone many months ago. I doubt they are importing them no more.
The Yugo is military spec and hot loaded . In fact , my favorite as its very accurate in my Yugo SKS. It has some recoil to it firing from an AK.

I would like to see the same tests with auto sheet steel and auto safety glass.
Overpenetraition is a concern for some, but everyones situation will be different.

Thanks for the informative videos.

I'm not sure what to take away from this one, however, as I believe the round performed better than I expected it to do.

I'd like a huge budget as well :D Maybe if enough people keep watching my videos one day it'll happen.

Nice video, any way you could do a comparison to the Hornaday SST (Z-max) and older WMC 8m3 bullet? Those are both suppose to expand very well but I can't find any gel tests online.

Most centerfire rifles are going to pass through a human sized target even with hollow points. When using a rifle for self defense you have to be aware of what is behind your target. Remember you are not NYPD. Retreat if possible. You are only supposed to shoot if you are in fear of your life. If you have time to run to the truck to get your rifle you can likely escape without firing a shot.

I have both of those rounds and they're in the que. Stay tuned :D

I really liked the video! Any chance you could do the Golden Tiger any time soon? I'd like to see whether their boat-tailed bullet actually has any effect on terminal ballistics, or whether it's just a gimmick. Again, great video! Well done!

Not to be critical but why are you wasting your time & money performing redundant tests? 7.62x39mm FMJ has been tested extensively and your penetration results are no different from tests that have already been performed.

What is different is the smaller temporary cavities produced in the "Clear Ballistics Gelatin" block, which demonstrates it really isn't "FBI Spec".

Deer Freak, what are you basing that statement on? I'm pretty sure most hollow point rifle bullets have less penetration than handgun rounds, but I'm eager to see your evidence.
