My Sig 1911 feeds reliably with anything I've fed it, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with steel cased Wolf ammo in their 1911? I had a Springfield GI for a while that ate anything and anything, but I recall a bit of stove-piping with Wolf ammo. What are your thoughts? I'm thinking about stocking up on some ball in the event of, ahem, "societal difficulties". Wolf ammo is cheap and available.

Thanks!

Steel case .45 ammo?
Not for me, or my guns.

I have broke a couple Colt 1911 extractors with WWII GI surplus steel case ammo.

But shoot'm if you got'm.

SIG probably has more extractors if you break one.

it works great for me and wolf is pretty much all i shoot nowadays with the ammo price being so high. Has always been reliable and fairly accurate out of my Sig Tc-Op, smells dirty though

also Sig 1911 uses EGW external extractor that's extrmely beefy and thick. They're only $30 if you ever break one..........somehow

No problem with Wolf or Tula steel cased in my SIG Tac-Op or P220 SAO (or any other gun). I shoot mostly steel plates so "quantity has a quality of its very own!" Shooting outdoors, I've never noticed any particular smell.

The first gun I broke from shooting was my Colt 1911, (my first 1911) it was the extractor after about 8000 rounds, all brass cased. IMHO Colt has been living off its reputation for way too long and any "premium quality" is marketing hype.

IMHO: Thats all well & good.

But the extractors I broke were in a 1950 Colt government, and a WWII GI Remington Rand, both times shooting WWII steel case ammo.

I tend to think it had more to do with steel case ammo then Colts undeserved reputation for quality.

Steel is fine in your 1911. I shoot factory Wolf and Tula steel, as well as cast lead reloads of those same cases, in several different 1911 brands, including more than one Colt, Springfield, RIA and Detonics.

Unlike the previous poster, I have not broken or damaged an extractor in any of those -- even the RIA, which is one of the early '00s models and is MIM) through countless rounds.

I vote to shoot Wolf in your Sig till your heart's content and be worry free (and enjoy the $ savings).
