An earlier thread was about someone who used non-corrosive surplus ammo in his Garand. He left the barrel for about a week and it corroded.
He discovered the "non-corrosive" ammo was not what it claimed.

Ques: I use Wolf ammo in my mini-30. But clean it, usually, the same day.

But has anyone had problems with Wolf? I know it's from Russia and used to be military surplus.

Thanx in advance.

I've used nothing but Wolf ammo in my AK. There have been times that I've not cleaned it knowing I was going to use it again then next weekend and I've never had any corrosion in it at all.

I've never had a problem, even after several weeks without cleaning. That includes a .45, .223, and 7.62X39.

AFAIK, Wolf is current production non-corrosive. They even make it with a new polymer coated case, replacing the lacquer on the steel cases which would sometimes melt in a hot chamber.

The new Wolf stuff has worked well in the calibers I normally use, and less of that nasty red residue it used to leave. For calibers I don't reload and shoot semi-seldom (or more often but reloading isn't an option for), it works.

I've shot a fair amount of Wolf in Com-bloc rifles, both new and old ammo, and it works fine about 99.8% of the time. On the very few jams I've had there was no obvious sign of an ammo problem, so it could have been the gun or the ammo--I don't know. I've also shot a pretty small amount of the Wolf (less than 200 rounds) through US pistols and rifles and I can't remember a single problem, but it would not be my "go to" ammo for those applications. Finally, I prefer Barnaul to Wolf and they're priced virtually the same, but I'm happy with either.

I shoot Wolf and Norinco ammo out of my Yugo SKS. Left it sitting for three weeks once w/o cleaning, and no problems.

I also shoot Wolf heavily out of my Springfield GI .45, with absolutely no problems.

PinnedAndRecessed, I believe the surplus that you are refering to is the Korean surplus .30-06 (Pusan?). Some of it comes on Garand clips and bandoleers and some in boxes in .50 cal ammo cans.

I have used it a lot, and it IS corrosive. Its cheap, (last check about $80 for 400 rounds) and great for plinking. Just clean ASAP.
