I just tried this for the first time today, and was very surprised at the results. I was shooting a buckmark camper off-hand at about 10 yards. With the federal bulk stuff, I was getting 4" or so groups, with fairly frequent flyers.

When I switched over to the Wolf, it moved down to 2" groups. I was stunned that the ammunition could make that much of a difference at such a close range. I had been a little afraid that I wouldn't be able to tell a difference. I've never really noticed a difference between the various brands of bulk .22 ammo that I have tried.

It did seem a lot lower powered, and so I had functioning problems about once every 20 rounds, which is too frequent for my tastes.

Wolf "Match Target" is target ammo and thus "standard velocity" rather than "high velocity".

Wolf 22 lr ammo is very good quality stuff and shoots well in many different firearms.

As you may know, 22 rimfire firearms are quite individualistic about their ammo
preferences but your experience is not uncommon.

Your Buckmark shouldn't be bothered by the target ammo, perhaps the action
could use some cleaning after running a bunch of the cheap bulk stuff through there.

Wolf .22 target ammo is made in Germany AFAIK and is made to pretty high standards. It is very good stuff, with the exception of all the wax on it it.

My CZ 452 will shoot the Wolf .22 target into very tiny groups at 100 yards. I say my CZ because it sure as hell ain't me doing it. :D

SK Standard Plus, is the same ammo just in case you can find one but not the other.. They are both made in the same factory in Germany. That wax helps with keeping leading down in the barrel. Eley and many other high end target ammo have very waxie (sp?) feel.... Try champions shooter supply, they very often have SK or MT on sale for about 230.00 delivered per 5000 rounds ( 2.30/50 )(case price) Very good ammo for the price!

Just out of curiousity, is the .22 ammo steel cased just like the centerfire ammo? And of course by .22 ammo I mean the Wolf.

Wolf centerfire ammo is made in Russia, and by many thought of as poor grade to say the least. Wolf rimfire ammo is made in Germany, and is very good ammo (same as SK ammo), that shoots very well in MANY firearms!

We tried some of this out a couple of years ago in our Bullseye league - it's very accurate ammo but won't cycle the action on some pistols.

I occasionally look at threads like this out of curiousity - Wolf is an American importer brand and as such of no interest to me, but some of their stuff may be available here under the manufacturer's own name.

And hey, I found that I actually own a small piece of this manufacturer! :)

Well, sort of. SK Jagd und Sportmunition is (since 1991) a subsidiery of Lapua, which in turn is a part of Nammo - half of which is owned by the Norwegian government...

Anyway, I just posted because some of you might find the Lapua connection interesting. Apparantly SK .22 LR is loaded with Vihtavuori powder (also a part of the Nammo/Lapua group).

cslinger: It is very good stuff, with the exception of all the wax on it it.
In my experience all the really good ammo has a lot of wax on it - Eley, RWS, Lapua, I don't think I've ever seen match grade .22 without it. Seems to me that if you want to win the olympics, you have to live with a lot of wax on your ammo.

Wolf MT is good stuff compared to most other 22 ammo's- it's only drawback is the two to three "flyers" per box that makes it unacceptable for competition-

I always chuckle how people would dismiss wolf ammo.. when I was using their .22lr and 7.62r with great results all along :)

I dunno...I was just about to comment that, not only is it accurate, but its consistently so, i.e. no flyers... So far I've only used about 5 boxes, and not in a "target" rifle...But, I've been geeting very, very nice 10 shot groups, w/no flyers like I'm used to with other mid-priced ammo.

Our rifle team here at school shoots the Match Target ammo. Ive been impressed so far, they seem to group a little better than Federal Gold Medal ammo.

Can't get the stuff to reliably cycle ANY of my six high quality semi auto handguns. I'm not going to re-spring them all just to shoot this weak stuff.

I suppose it would work OK in a revo or bolt rifle. I've had as good or better accuracy with Federal Target for less money and aggravation.

YMMV

Stuff shoots great, but I can't get it to extract out of my CZ452LUX. I have to do the musket drill and push a rod down the barrel and push out the case.

I shot ISSF bullseye for 3 years. I used mostly Wolf MT in a Walther GSP. I also used it in my Hammerli FP10. Its great for practice ammo, and for match ammo depending on the circumstances. I used it for all matches at 50ft. However, when I shot matches at Ft. Benning and Wolf Creek at 25m, I would use Wolf Match Extra in the GSP. Match Extra was the best grouping ammo of all the big names for my particular gun at 25m. I used some Eley variant for the free pistol at 50m.

I don't buy the couple flyers per box, unless you are shooting indoor smallbore and are a higher level shooter. I have a friend that can easily outshoot most ammo. He'd travel to factories to pick out what lot he wanted his ammo from. Needless to say, he didn't shoot wolf very long.

The reason I ask is

I've tried both and found the MT to be more accurate than the more expensive ME.

Also, I was looking at benchrest results and a lot of people use the MT but not the ME.

Haven't tried the MH gold yet.

Hmmm. . . that explains it. I buy the Wolf .22lr match target by the case and the brown cardboard box it comes in is marked "Lapua."

I'm down to my last 2.5+ cases of WMT and 1+ cases of WME. I should have bought more when the WMT was only $15 to $18 a brick. Oh well, live and learn.

Some of my rifles prefer the faster WMT at 1050 fps and some like the slower WME at 1033.
