I was at the range today shooting some wolf 9mm and it seemed like the whole batch I had wasn't all loaded to spec. I know wolf is variable but on my hipower it wasn't even cycling properly on completely random rds. I had one that fired and I saw the bullet hit but the it felt like a 22. I rack the slide and out comes a spent piece of brass. Most of the failures seemed like they didn't rack the slide all the way. (underpowered) It was maybe in 7 out of 100 rds. Then on my Beretta cougar in 9mm I had one on the last rd not lock the slide back and on then one squibed in the barrel and blew smoke everywhere. This is probably the worst batch of wolf I have ever had. I have never had a lot of problems with wolf before. Either way I would strongly recommend wearing your safety glasses while shooting wolf. When that round squibed it blew gas and partially burned powder to my face.

I realize that buying less expensive rounds allows more practice, but there is a trade off. It will either be less reliable or not as accurate as a better quality round. At least you pointed to the ammunition as the culprit, some believe that their gun is the problem. If only everyone would stop buying this garbage we might see some improvement in it. That won't happen I dare say.

Try some S&B Rangesafe ammo. I use it when shooting IPSC and it runs just fine.

Why shoot Wolf? To save money, I assume. Why not save much more money by shooting reloads from www.mastercast.net. I have fired more than five thousand rounds of their reloads without incident, including 500 of their 9mm 124gr hardcast lead truncated cone. I am now working through the second batch of 500. Mastercast is reliable, inexpensive and prompt -- unlike two other providers of reloads I have dealt with. You can save even more money by sending them your spent brass in exchange. If you choose to do this, do it by USPS Priority Mail. Amazingly enough, and even with the latest rate increase, this costs less than half of what any other way I know of would.

I think I'm just going to buy WWB and reload the brass. I have been picking up other peoples brass every time I go to the range. I'm still going to buy Wolf in the russian calibers 9x18 and 7.62x39. However the biggest thing with this is I am going to do is strongly recommend wearing your safety glasses shooting this stuff.

The Wolf ammo has been surprisingly inconsistent and sporadic in every caliber I've shot it in. I cannot recommend it, since I practice to achieve repeatability, not just make noise and smoke. Loading 9mm is cheap and simple, you can use good components and still be in at $4 a box.
